Click here to read article in the 2014 RCMP Gazette Magazine on how “Real Time Crisis” strategy works, using professional intervention in real time to calls to 911 and the police for persons in crisis who have posted on social media. The goal is to reduce stigma and avoid a potential violent confrontation between a person in crisis and a police officer at a wellness check. It is believed that many police investigative and front line resources, as well as hospital emergency room mental health resources could be saved by preventing the need to dispatch emergency services by dealing with the social media cries for help through 24/7 professional social workers or nursers working alongside police officers in 911 and emergency services call centres.
